February Sister Spotlight: Coleen Merk

February 13, 2019

One of our 2019 #Upgrades for our Every Heart Sister Membership is our new Sister Spotlight! Every single month we will feature one of our valued members and share some of what makes their HEART shine!

Our February Sister Spotlight is Coleen Merk. Coleen has been a member of The Every Heart Project since its inception, and has attended almost every single event and all three retreats! She has become a staple in the project and mentor to many of our members.

Her first solo book, The Starting Over Toolbox: Reinvent Yourself At Any Age was recently published with The Every Heart Project, where she shares her stories of relocating from the city to the country and finding her new voice at the age of 60. It's hilarious, thought-provoking and entertaining. I laughed out loud at a few of those stories myself. My favorite part about the book is that she uses a series of construction tools (such as the hammer, hard hat and sander) to describe how she transformed her thinking over some difficult times, and it was so easy to relate those tools to my own life and experiences. I just know her book is going to touch many women and men alike. She is also an active blogger and loves to write about her adventures and stories of life after 60.

Coleen is also the Vice President of Outreach for The Every Heart Project, which means she is focused on truly reaching the hearts of both our members and potential members, but also the hearts of women everywhere who may need our love and kindness. We recently partnered with Our Friends Place, a non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent homelessness in at-risk women ages 18-24 in Dallas. Coleen is our leader in that endeavor, touching base with the leadership of that organization to ensure we have volunteer needs met, donation wishes fulfilled and any other assistance we can provide. Coleen's big heard and compassionate spirit is the reason she is leading that part of the mission, and we are so thankful for her every day.

When Coleen isn't writing about life after 60, she is usually sitting on her porch with her best friend and husband, DK, with a glass of wine and an epic view of the lake.

Coleen: thank you for being a heart-led and heart-centered Sister and living the mission so passionately and intentionally. We are honored to have you as a part of the project and excited to spotlight you this month.
